Introducing the stacked lobe
Read time: 4 minutes
Ready to level up your ear game? Let us introduce you to your next favourite piercing. The stacked lobe is the latest trend to take the piercing world by storm and we’re calling it the new ‘it’ girl piercing placement. It’s cute, personalised, and the perfect low-effort way to elevate your existing ear stack.
What is a stacked lobe piercing?
A stacked lobe piercing involves adding a second hole above or slightly offset from your original lobe piercing, creating a layered or stacked effect. The placement - either vertical or angled - will depend on your ear shape and existing piercings, but our piercers will help you find the perfect placement to complement your ear anatomy. Because it’s tailored to you, a stacked lobe piercing is one of the most unique and personalised piercings you can have.
What jewellery is compatible with a stacked lobe piercing?
Labret studs with small decorative heads are the ideal choice for a stacked lobe piercing. The daintier designs fit snugly in the gap between your other piercings and their flat backs reduce irritation and make for comfortable everyday wear. Studs are especially recommended due to the height of the piercing on the ear - it would be tricky to fit a hoop so high on your lobe and alongside existing piercing jewellery. Luckily, at A&M, we have plenty of dainty stud options to choose from. Here are a couple of our favourites: Topaz Gem Piercing Stud in Solid Gold, Stacked Topaz Piercing Stud in Solid Gold, Crystal Star Titanium Piercing Stud in Gold.
How should I style my stacked lobe piercing?
For a chic, timeless look, opt for a solid gold or diamond piercing stud you’ll never have to replace. If you’re going for an offset stacked lobe, our Diamond Bezel Charm Piercing Stud in Solid Gold would make an adorable statement.
Take the opportunity to mix it up! Why not combine both gold and silver into your ear stack with a dainty stud in a contrasting metal? Our Molten Piercing Stud in Solid White Gold is perfect for this and will add edge and dimension to your ear stack.
Feeling playful? Try a motif stud - think flowers, shells, and celestial designs to add a little extra magic to your stack. Or, call on the luck of the Irish with the Clover Piercing Stud in Solid Gold.
Stacked above a hoop or a huggie, a labret stud adds a delicate finishing touch for a stack that’s anything but boring. Something as simple as our Micro Crystal Titanium Piercing Stud in Gold works wonders.
What are the benefits of a stacked lobe piercing?
A stacked lobe piercing is a great way to balance out an ear stack with extra room between piercings or uneven spacing. For example, if there is a gap between your first and second lobe piercings, an offset stacked lobe would transform this into a totally intentional triangular piercing constellation. You can also transform a very high lobe piercing into a stacked lobe if there is space to pierce below it.
At A&M, our piercers will always help you find the perfect placement to complement your ear anatomy and your dream ear stack.
How painful is a stacked lobe piercing?
Lobe piercings, including stacked lobe piercings, are generally considered to be less painful than cartilage piercings, with the standard lobe piercing thought to be the most comfortable option due the soft, fleshy tissue in this part of the ear. That being said, everyone’s pain tolerance is different, so experiences can vary.
It’s worth noting that getting multiple piercings in one session can increase the overall discomfort (but it’s a small price to pay for your dream ear stack!)
How do I look after my new piercing?
To make sure your piercings heal properly, you’ll need to give them some love and care along the way. Healing time will vary person to person, but here are our top tips for a smooth aftercare process:
- Clean your piercing with the A&M Aftercare Solution twice a day until it is fully healed. You should do this for a minimum of 2-3 months for lobes. Spray the front and back of your piercing and dry the area with a clean paper towel afterwards.
- Outside of cleaning, try to avoid touching your piercing, and when you have to, always wash your hands.
- Try to avoid sleeping on your piercing, as this can cause irritation.
- Have your piercing jewellery downsized after about 6 weeks, once the initial swelling has subsided. This will help the rest of the healing process go smoothly.
- Wait until your piercing has fully healed before changing the jewellery.
How long does a stacked lobe piercing take to heal?
Lobe piercings are generally considered faster healing than cartilage piercings, and can heal in as little as 8-12 weeks, so they’re a great way to spice up your ear stack without having to commit to a lengthy aftercare process. That being said, every piercing requires aftercare and it’s an important part of showing some love to your new piercing.
As you can tell, we’re obsessed with this new, trending piercing placement - and for good reason. The stacked lobe it a great opportunity to mix in a daintier stud with your hoops and huggies and it has a unique ability to level up any ear stack with minimal pain and upkeep. We asked our Piercing Mentor, Charlotte, how she felt about the stack lobe piercing she said:
And don’t just take it from us! We’ve spotlighted a few of our community's happy and healing stacked lobe piercings for your inspiration.
