Sustainability & Responsibility

Sustainability & Responsibility

We’re more than just a jewellery brand.

At Astrid & Miyu we see Sustainability as taking responsibility, being conscious of our decisions throughout the business and creating circularity in our products.

We focus on people, planet and product, striving to find a balance between them to protect communities and reduce our carbon footprint, whilst making shining jewellery that can be worn again and again.

Sustainability starts with us. From community work, caring for our suppliers and educating and supporting our team - find out how we’re putting people first.

We donate all profits from our Astrid & Renew Recycling Scheme to The Felix Project, a food distribution charity based in London. The organisation's vision is a London where no one goes hungry and good food is never wasted.

Since the scheme began we’ve donated over £5000!

As a young and passionate team, A&M is proud to partner with University of Leicester to mentor BAME students in their chosen field. With mentors from all levels across our business, we help our mentees kick start their careers.

Ethical Trade Document

As we grow as a business, we also grow our focus on responsible sourcing and manufacturing, working with our supply chain from all around the world to ensure ethical and environmental practices are in place.

All Astrid & Miyu makers must carry out certified audits and sign our Ethical Trade Statement, in line with industry expectations of the best ethical and environmental practices.

This doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Our product and sustainability team are dedicated to working with our makers to improve current practices, whilst continuing to source new innovative products as we all work towards a more sustainable future.

Team Education & Support

We focus on internal education and care for our Team A&M to make sure all departments are working towards our sustainability goals. With the introduction of our very own sustainability team, we’ve started focus groups and a sustainability task force to grow our knowledge.

As a growing business, supporting our team is essential. We offer mental health support, a Employee Assistance Program, training and coaching across all departments, so our team can shine in their roles.

We’re still on our responsibility and sustainability journey. Discover more about how we’re caring for the planet, through our Jewellery Recycling Scheme and internal initiatives.

A&M Head Office

We’ve considered all areas of Astrid & Miyu in our responsibility journey, including our Head Office working environment. We’re proud to work in a Workspace office, which was redeveloped in 2018 to a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ level. BREEAM is a market leading green certification scheme, which validates buildings’ sustainability credentials.

Our Stores

As well as our office space, making the in-store experience sustainable and sparkling is part of our retail mission. We curate our stores with vintage, recycled and recyclable props to be more conscious with our visual merchandising. We try to always source materials from sustainable brands, and can be reused for future campaigns and collections.

What's better than new jewels? New recycled jewels. Explore how both our product, and the packaging it's sent to you in, is consciously created.

60% of our products are made from recycled metals

100% of our solid gold is RECYCLED

Our Materials

Recycled Sterling Silver 925

The majority of our A&M pieces are created using recycled sterling silver. Recycled sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. We plate our pieces in 18k yellow gold, 18k rose gold or rhodium. All of our recycled jewellery goes through a refining process, where we remove any impurities, making the quality equal to mined gold and silver.

Plated Brass

Some of our A&M jewellery is produced using brass; which is an alloy of copper & zinc. Brass is a commonly used base metal for jewellery, because it is malleable and also very durable. Our brass pieces are plated in 18k yellow gold, 18k rose gold or rhodium. We recommend not wearing them in water (and keeping them away from sweat or cosmetics!) to keep them shining for longer.

Recycled Solid Gold

14k solid gold is made of 58.3% pure gold and 41.7% other metal alloy, and is one of the most commonly used golds for jewellery settings because of its long-wearing qualities. A&M’s solid gold is 100% recycled, making it a conscious choice for your jewellery box (without compromising on quality). Our Solid Gold Collection is full of timeless classics that you’ll keep for years to come, perfect for those special moments.

Semi-Precious Stones

We use a variety of semi-precious stones and beads in our A&M jewellery pieces, and many are hand cut to achieve the shapes required. When selecting our semi-precious stones we are looking at cut and colour depth, alongside the meaningful healing properties that the stones are believed to carry.

Pearls

We use cultured freshwater pearls, which are sourced by our suppliers. The pearls are hand selected for each design, and every pearl is unique as we are - all different sizes, shapes and colours. Remember to keep your freshwater pearls away from water, and direct contact with cosmetics can cause marks or discolouration. Keep freshwater pearl pieces in your sealed A&M pouch and, if you need to clean them, wipe with a microfibre cloth.

Lab Grown Diamonds

Lab grown diamonds are man-made diamonds, created under controlled laboratory conditions, with the same chemical composition and crystal structure as natural diamonds. As a result they have the same sparkle and brilliance as natural diamonds, and are considered to be conflict free and sustainable.
